Throwback Thursday: Vintage Oliver Goldsmith

There's only one name in vintage fashion eyewear and that is Oliver Goldsmith. We have written about his inspiring collection a lot over the years, but it's nice to look back at some favourites every once in a while. Seen together, you can really appreciate the creativity and craftsmanship that went into these handmade sunglasses that were light years ahead of their time.

Glasses of the Week: Rashmi in Sama Jill

Rashmi is fresh-faced and lovely in her new Sama 'Jill' glasses in Matte Taupe. This new shape from Sama is modern, feminine and lightweight - comfort and vision is key as Rashmi works behind the scenes at a TV station and spends most of her day looking at screens, so we think the 'Jill' is a great choice!

Glasses of the Week: Family Style!

Peter Elliott, Grace Elliott and Susan Trainor

Regulars at MHPE may recognize Grace as our talented spectacle assistant who is currently in the final year of her optometry degree. Here she is with her lovely parents Peter and Susan, all wearing frames from Michael Holmes Premium Eyewear. There’s nothing better than seeing a whole family wearing our specs!

Grace may not be the only familiar face. Peter Elliott has been a fixture on Kiwi screens and stage for the last 34 years. Appearances include ‘Shortland Street’, ‘Gloss’ and ‘Homeward Bound’. He is also a passionate frontman for many documentaries including ‘Primeval New Zealand’, ‘Captains Log’, ‘The Last Ocean’ and currently airing ‘Art of the Architect’. Susan was a dancer for Limbs Dance Company in her 20s, after which she was kept busy by her 3 children. Currently, she is a fabulously fit programme director and instructor for Les Mills International, choreographing for BodyVive and CXWORX.

Peter wears Dita ‘New Yorker’, Grace wears Claire Goldsmith ‘Watson’ in Deep Sea, Susan wears Claire Goldsmith ‘Dale’ in Elephant.

Glasses of the Week: Laura in Altair

Laura Robertson looks fantastic in her new Garrett Leight 'Altair' in Demi Blonde. After months of searching for her first pair of glasses, Laura came to us and found the perfect pair from California! The Altair has that laidback West Coast vibe of being clean and light, and is a great option for ladies who would like something wearable and stylish at the same time.

Sophia in Speckle

The Oliver Goldsmith 'Sophia' (1958) is named after Sophia Loren, one of Oliver Goldsmith's favourite actresses. Designed in Notting Hill in 1958, this elegant cats-eye takes its rightful place as an OG: Icon with little competition. Worn by Grace Kelly in the early 60s, it sums up the gracefulness of the cats-eye but still carries the boldness of Oliver Goldsmith styling.

Already a firm favourite, these iconic sunglasses are now available in a gorgeous new colour: Speckle. This vibrant colour adds a fresh new look to a classic frame.

Advanced Style

Our wonderful client Gay Compton sets the bar high. We love that Gay doesn't shy away from edgier styles, she looks amazing in her new Claire Goldsmith 'Kelsey' glasses in Indigo, to match her favourite Oliver Goldsmith 'Fuz' sunglasses in Electric Black.

Gay reminds us in the best way of fellow stylish ladies Iris Apfel, Rita Hammer and Joy Venturini Bianchi, who are devotees of oversized, bold frames.
